An Unscheduled Visit
Mum died in her sleep just before Christmas, she would have been 82 on the 26th. of January. I’m so glad I had the chance to see her at Easter, not realising at the time it would be the last. I had tried to ring her a number of times over the course of the day but she didn't pick up. I informed her brother, that lived five minutes away, and he went round and found her.
As H has school holidays we flew over last Saturday. To get the death certificate I first had to say how/why/when my mother had died to her GP. I thought this was a bit weird asking me as I hadn't been there. He said it was a routine question to see if the information I had recieved, and possibly had other information, didn't differ from what was the offical cause of death entered into the death certificate. I told him what I had been told. As there were not contradictions he signed and gave it to me.
Mun had died on the last day of the year and we had the funeral yesterday.
Today is H’s 50th. Birthday - all a bit much I can say. Due to H having to be back at school next week, we will have little time to “scan” the house and it’s contents to see if there were any ”surprises” in store.
One of the not so nice surprises was to have to clear out and clean up the deep freeze and fridge, as the contents had reached room temperature and beyond. This was mainly due to F turning the heating and power off before we came over. You can imagine the first thing we had to do when arriving was to air the house..
All we will be able to do in the remaining days is pack a case with all her paperwork, crown jewels etc., stop all deliveries that we know about, redirect all important post to Germany and “brick the place up” without advertising the fact that the house was going to be empty for an unstipulated time period.
We are thankful that mum’s neighbour said she would keep an eye on the place and go in every now and then to air the place. We have no idea when we will have the opportunity to get back and start Phase Two “The clear out”.
