Bodiam Castle

The trip from the hotel was short; we were quite early, hardly anyone around. We drove up to the hut with the man selling parking tickets with H her purse at the ready.
He surprised us with saying that the entrance was free! Not only for the parking but also access to the castle. And to top it all, it was National Trust (NT) open day, which meant our next visit in the afternoon to Batemanns would also be free.

We walked up to the castle from the car park and then around the moat to the entrance on the other side. The whole place was very impressive.
Most, if not all, of the outer walls still intact.

As H was now an “expert” at spinning from her lessons with K on the farm, she started chatting away with them and tried her hand at weaving with a comb.
There was entertainment for young and old, people in costumes walking around and at certain times there were specific talks about the castle and daily life in the Middle Ages.
There was a long talk about the bakery, you had to use your imagination as there was hardly anything to see due to most of the castle innards where missing. The talk was quite detailed and gave a good impression of daily work and the hard life at the time.
We stayed until midday and as it was getting hot and the wasps were getting the upper hand we left for our next destination with free entrance.
